Giddy Up! A Vintage Pony Party

Hello again! Well since my last post I have some very good news to share with you… Giddy Kipper won the Best Special Touches category at the recent Wedding Ideas Awards in London! We are totally thrilled to have won for the 2nd year running and had the most amazing night with lots of fabulous companies from the wedding industry.

Wild About Weddings

For today’s post though I’m moving away from weddings to bring you ideas for a little girl’s birthday party.

As a child I had an imaginary friend, a horse to be precise. He was a magnificent Palamino and I loved him. I can’t quite muster up his name but it was probably something like Regan which I thought was very exotic as a 6 year old. Well it was the 70s afterall.

So what better theme for a little girl’s party than horses and ponies. I personally prefer earthier colours for this type of party with a vintage feel, than the more lurid pinks & violets of My Little Pony but the latter would work well for a younger party.

A Neapolitan colour scheme immediately came to mind for this party theme – a beautiful combination of cream, brown and vintage pink.

Guests could be asked to wear these colours or perhaps dress in riding gear to bring a fancy dress element to the party. They could bring a hobbyhorse along as their horsey companion or these can be bought and lined up ready for guests arrival.

Party guests could then decorate their horse’s mane and write their chosen horse name on a tag, to tie onto their horse with a ribbon. Show jumping games, horseshoe throwing (not real ones of course!) and pin the tail on the pony bring heaps of fun to the party atmosphere with a replica ‘trophy’ for the winner and a ‘Best In Show’ rosette for the most beautifully decorated horse.

Room and table decorations could include brown and pink balloons, bunting, garlands, horse and pony figures and ribbon rosettes. Buckets lined with straw and filled with apples and carrots.

Old wooden crates on the party table could hold horse themed lollipops or bottles of water with equestrian labels. Towers of beautiful pink and brown cupcakes and mini milk bottles filled with strawberry and chocolate milk with pink and brown stripy straws.

The birthday girl will need a suitably themed cake as a centrepiece. A Neapolitan layered cake with a horse figure on the top and tiny paper bunting would complete the look.

Simple brown paper or striped bags could hold a small treat for each partygoer to take home – gifts could include a small plush pony toy, horse shaped cookies and a pony themed colouring book

I think my imaginary friend would be very proud of this type of party …oh look! He’s shaking his imaginary mane in agreement.
